The Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics

Welcome to CSPT official website

The Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CSPT) is a national, not-for-profit organization that aims to foster the application of educational and research excellence to drug discovery and therapeutic choice. CSPT is recognized for its involvement with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship training program in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, as well as its support of graduate and postdoctoral trainees, as well as academic researchers across the country.

CSPT is the official Canadian member of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) and a proud chapter of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET). Its official affiliated journal is The Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology (CJPP).

    Speaker Bio: Dylan Burger (PhD) is a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute where he serves as Associate Director of the Inflammation and Chronic Disease Program and Director of the Kidney Research Centre. He is a Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Ottawa.


    Dr. Burger holds a PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of Western Ontario and is an internationally recognized expert on extracellular vesicle biology and their signaling in diabetes, aging, and renal disease.


    He has authored more than 140 manuscripts and has received several awards including the Canadian Society of Nephrology New Investigator Lectureship (2016), the University of Ottawa Department of Medicine PhD Scientist Award (2018), the 2022 Outstanding Volunteer Award from Hypertension Canada, the University of Ottawa Educator of the Year –Basic Sciences – Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (2024), and the Kidney Foundation of Canada’s John B Dossetor Research Award (2025).


    Dr. Burger is the current President of the Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, a member of the Board of Directors for the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles, and Associate Editor for the European Heart Journal.

    The CSPT Education Committee is excited to launch a Community of Practice focused on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) in Pharmacology.  


    This series will allow you to connect with those with shared teaching and learning experience across Canada and share ideas and problem solving while developing and promoting excellence and teaching, learning and scholarship across Canadian Pharmacology and related medical science disciplines.
